After a remarkably weird season full of injuries, the awards were announced on February 5th and they were expected to say the least.
Before the Super Bowl, awards are announced to congratulate players who excelled in their position. A poll was done at Kathleen MacDonald High School to hear people’s thoughts on which players are going to win awards and the results were surprisingly close to the actual votes.
38.1% of students from KMHS voted that the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of this season goes to Matthew Stafford, which was correctly guessed since he won for his unreal TD-IN ratio (46-8). 66.7% voted defensive player of the year was Myles Garret for breaking the all time sack record with 23 sacks in one season. 45% voted for Jaxon Smith-Njigba to win offensive player of the year for his 1,793 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging almost 100 yards per game and 15 yards per reception.
For the two most promising rookie awards (offensive and defensive), 42.9% voted for Tetairoa Mcmillan for being the only rookie receiver to reach 1,000 yards, 52.4% assumed and voted for Nick Emmanwori for making the Super Bowl and being one of the best up-and-coming dbs in the league, but unfortunately was guessed incorrectly since Carson Schwesinger won it for his 146 tackles and 2 interceptions.
Pro Bowl MVP‘s went to Antoine Winfield and George Pickens after securing a 66-52 win against the AFC making it their 4th win in a row against the AFC.
Senior Boston Olivarez, said, “I honestly thought Drake Maye was going to win MVP for how young he is and make the Super Bowl in his second year with a trash team.“
“After the super bowl, I don’t know if Drake Maye deserves it now after the weak performance in the bright lights.”
Super Bowl MVP went to Kenneth Walker lll for his 27 carries for 135 rushing yards averaging 5 yards per carry, and being the reason the Seahawks won their 2nd Super Bowl LX(60).
