With the seniors finishing up their last couple of weeks at MacDonald High School, word around graduation is coming up faster than ever; senioritis is at a high level, and excitement for seniors to graduate. From what it seems, some students are not wanting to do their work and are ready to leave. But you also have students who are sad to leave and wanting to stay longer.
Graduation brings out a lot of thoughts for students. When asked what they are doing for graduation Jiya Patel said, “I think preparing for graduation is a mix of small, practical things and trying to mentally catch up with what’s happening. I plan on getting everything I need ahead of time, like my outfit, shoes, and any accessories so I’m not stressed at the last minute.”
This gives insight into what other Seniors may be doing or suggestions for what they could be doing.
When asked about what they think their emotions are going to be during graduation, Emily Buronda said, “I will definitely cry, if I don’t cry at graduation there’s something wrong, cause all the weight of high school will just be sliding off my back.”
A lot of seniors may relate since they’re all thinking about what’s after high school and they worry about the future.
Some concerns for graduation is that students may lose connections with other students that they have been around with for the last 4 years.
Aidan Rodriguez said, “Something that concerns me regarding graduation is the possibility of losing connections. I feel like I have built genuine connections with so many people that may not uphold the tests of college separation. However, this does not hold me back from the possibility of meeting new people and making new friends.”
Another student who has other concerns for the big day of graduation is Julio Cruz, who said, “Something that concerns me is probably tripping on the stage or if the weather is bad.”
Since MacDonald is having their first seniors graduating, students seem to have very high expectations for themselves.
Cruz said, “I expect graduation to be an overall calm day where I get to celebrate with my friends from this and various schools as they start the next chapter of their lives, as well as celebrate the hard work that has gotten me to where I am today. “
Similarly, Rodriguez said, “I would expect it to be more massive and special than the other schools. Especially since we are going to be the first ever graduating class of this new high school.”
Graduation has been a long route that students at MacDonald students have been anticipating since day 1. With being the first ever graduating class students feel a number of ways and prepare in a majority of ways. There is a lot of weight left for students to carry until the day of graduation with teachers assigning more work then they have before.
