Entering 2026, people all around the world hope for a fresh start and a way to change for the better. Little did we know that the United States and Iranian citizens would be facing a major problem. Iranian forces have targeted multiple American bases. As a response, the United States launched a “major combat operation”. The plan? To destroy Iranian missile, naval and nuclear bases. The Iranian attacks on US bases were intercepted and caused minimal damage and no initial casualties.
Entering March, the conflict has escalated due to the reported killing of supreme leader Ali Khamenei. This resulted in a massive launch of missiles in the Middle East with threats of closing the Strait Of Hormuz and attacking regional infrastructure and U.S. military positions.
All of this is leaving students wondering how this “military operation” will affect their future.
Another student who would prefer to stay anonymous, said, “It could affect them with stress of what could happen in their future lives.” They refer to students not only of MacDonald but students nationwide.
As the “war” continues, day after day we notice daily items surge in price such as gasoline. The price of a gallon of gas has surged over 16% in California adding a whole other dollar to the price tag. Electricity has hit an 8.9% increase as well.
A student at MacDonald was interviewed on their perspective on the war and why this would matter for a student nationwide.
The student said, “They are the future of the world at the end of the day.”
As of March 26th, the president of the United States has said the US will cease fire on Iranian energy sites for the next 10 days. A student who would like to stay anonymous at MacDonald high school said that if the war continues the price of gasoline in the Middle East and said it’s important for people to know how this is affecting their daily life and to stay informed.
