Senior night is an event that takes place on the last home game of the regular season for any sport that the school provides. It is to honor the seniors on that team who are going to be graduating. Senior night is important to recognize the seniors, especially since it’s the first graduating class in Macdonald history.
“It basically recognizes our seniors for all of their hard work they put into our campus,” said ASB Secretary Ramie Rosario.
Senior Night serves as an emotional farewell to all of the athletes. During those nights, it will be run by the coaches, but also available for parents to step in and help.
According to Rosario, “Leadership and athletic boosters will also step in to support.” Since the start of the month, there have already been athletic boosters sponsoring three of the six teams by paying for the senior posters, which include the player’s jersey number, full name, and a picture of them.
Rosario said, “I am super excited, and I feel like all of our seniors should get recognized and honored, so I am very grateful we start with football as well as cheer and dance.”
Several students expressed their excitement about Senior Night.
Aaron Xu, one of the captains for the Varsity football team, said about the upcoming senior night, “I’m beyond excited for senior night, and for the past four years I’ve put into my sport, this event will hold a special place with me.”
Tiani Buten, Captain of the flag football team, said, “I’m really excited for senior night, because I get to see our other seniors who all have worked really hard, feel appreciated by their families as well as one another.”
Eddyne Pacheco, a 4-year player on the volleyball team, said, “I’m excited but sad because it’s the moment that hits like a dam, last year and last time experiencing it all with everyone”.
Jovana Bierman, one of the captains for the cross country team, said, “I’m super excited because I’ve waited four years for this and can’t wait to get that feeling right before the race knowing it will be my last one.”
A lot of emotions will be high during each of the sports’ respective senior nights. A sense of feeling, a lot of adrenaline, sadness as well as crying, laughing moments, and feeling bittersweet, the night will be a cherishable moment for all of the student-athletes.
Emily Borunda, a 4-year player on the tennis team, said, “I’m not really sure what to expect. I’ve never been to one.”
The sports that these Student-Athletes play also represent the school in a big way. Buten said, “ It has given me the chance to have a community I belong to and the chance to meet so many different people. It is something I never expected to do.”
Pacheco said, “Having fun and playing the sport. We build it from the ground up, even from many ups and downs. It was more of the experience with the people than showing up for the school”.
The senior class is one to remember for a very long time, as “Our impact is more meaningful. WE are the ones that set the tone for future generations to strive for.. To be a part of that has been a surreal experience,” said Xu.
