After finishing off the previous season with the first playoff win in Macdonald history but falling short in the 3rd round have shifted to a brand new Varsity head coach. Not just only the boys varsity coach but also for the JV boys and Varsity and JV girls.
Boys varsity Head coach Gil Vasquez said “ It’s an incredible honor. Being part of the MacDonald athletics program since our school opened and now stepping into the role of boys varsity head coach is something I take great pride in.”
Coach Shania Ratliff of the girls varsity Basketball team said, “It’s an honor. Being the head varsity coach at Macdonald feels exciting and meaningful because this is a young program with a ton of potential. I’m grateful for the opportunity to build something from the ground up and help these girls grow not only as athletes, but as people.”
Overall the coaches seems to be pretty excited about their teams this year and have high goals for their players.
Shania said, “ My expectations are centered around growth, effort, and identity. We’re a very young team, so the biggest goal is to improve every day to learn how to compete, play with heart, support each other, and establish a strong culture. If we can consistently play hard, stay connected, and develop our fundamentals, I’ll consider it a successful season.”
Vasquez said “ My expectations are centered around growth and building a strong team identity. I want our players to compete hard, play selflessly, and continue raising the standard for MacDonald basketball. It’s not just about wins and losses—it’s about developing good habits, learning how to handle adversity, and representing our school with pride. If we stay committed to that process, success will follow.”
Both Varsity coaches are looking to a spectacular season this year and to another CCS appearance this year.
For Coach Vasquez he’s been involved in both programs of condor basketball coaching the girls team for about two years and now will be coaching the boys for the 2025- 2026 season.
Vasquez said, “ It’s been smooth but different. The energy and style of play may change, but the values stay the same—teamwork, effort, and accountability. Both groups have been great to coach and represent what Condor basketball is all about.”
